Spring Time!

This is the same female from the pair of bluebirds in the previous post.  They both fly around a bird house next to my parents home.
I really love pictures of birds in flight.  I think it shows them in their element, and when they are the most beautiful.  The little birds are pretty tough to catch and get focused on, so this is a skill I hope to someday perfect.

Here is a pair of ospreys I found flying in and out of their nest.  I am pretty sure they had a few little ones (or at least eggs) up there.  They are pretty cool birds.  Take a look at those talons!

I went out surveying with my dad last week near Wolf Creek, MT.  It is really a beautiful time of year to be out among the critters.

Fun Weekend!!!

This weekend I had some family come visit and they asked for a few pictures.  I really had a great time with the kids and parents.  They are a good looking bunch.
I was really pleased with how things came out.
Here are a few of the results!
I thought this next shot had kind of a "Sound of Music" feel to it.  I really love the mountains of Montana!
This next one was fun for me because of the great brotherly interaction.  I told the older one to kiss the younger one and their fun fighting reaction was great.
I really like this one because it was a true daddy/daughter moment.  She was still in her jammies, playing with him on the chair.  He was pulling the smiles out of her, and I was lucky enough to have the camera right there and got her to look up.  Isn't she such a beautiful little girl?
Thanks guys for the fun visit. I hope you like the photos!

Getting Started

Welcome to my photography blog! My goal with this blog is to provide you an opportunity to get to know me and my skills, and to share with you the beauty I find in the world through the lens of my camera.

I use a Nikon D5000 and primarily shoot with my Nikkor AFS 18-55mm lens for closer shots, and my Nikkor AFS 70-300mm lens for things a little further away.

Here are a couple shots of the same beautiful girl, in the same pajamas, but in completely different settings. I love the natural expressions in both shots.

I have found that I really love to photograph people in real life settings. There is a lot of fun in capturing real expressions showing real emotions. This seems to happen a lot in family settings and activities like sporting events.
This picture is a young man having fun playing with cousins.

I also really enjoy wildlife and landscape photography. Its challenging trying to capture certain animals in certain settings, and I just love the beauty of the great outdoors. Here are a couple shots from a trip up McDonald Pass. The first shot I like because of the unfortunate irony created by the beetle killed pine trees.  I don't think that is what the original ranch owner meant when he named "Red Mountian Ranch".  In the other shots the bright colors really caught my eye.  Its sad to see the trees die, but it makes for some pretty pictures.
